Do I have to book supply staff through a portal under the GCA framework?
No, not day-to-day.
The framework's digital element is the agency selection tool, reached through DfE Sign-in. You use it to find and appoint approved suppliers, and to evidence that your procurement is compliant. Then you sign a short Call-Off Order Form.
And that part is essentially a one-off. Once it's signed, your capped rates and framework protections are locked in. You're not repeating the exercise every time Year 3 needs cover on a Tuesday.
How do I actually book a supply teacher under RM6376?
Exactly how you do now. Ring your consultant. Text them at 7:15am. Email them the night before.
The framework governs procurement and pricing, nmot how you and your agency talk to each other. Under Lot 1, you appoint suppliers on a booking-by-booking basis, and most academies will use Lot 1 exclusively for day-to-day cover.
But what about all those booking platforms?
Some agencies and some trusts do use them. Those are their tools, not framework requirements.
If a platform is being introduced, it's fair to ask yourself what problem it solves for you. If the answer is only "central reporting", that's worth a conversation.
